The studio prompt was to create two complimentary yet distinct geometric derivatives of a milk carton that form a cohesive pair. We followed the bottom surface of the milk carton through five stages of folding to explore how folding bridges between volumes and surfaces. At each stage, vertical contour sections were taken along selected edges. The contours were recombined and lofted to form two objects that nest together and create a layering of interior volumes. The final pair captures the movement of overlapping surfaces and compressed volumes that underlies the bottom surface of the milk carton. The final object pair was 3D printed with Selective Laser Sintering (SLS).
